
Gwendolyn Patterson Cobbs, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
Dr. Cobbs is a Board-Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and has been licensed to practice Obstetrics and Gynecology for over 28 years in Northern Virginia where she delivered thousands of babies and performed multiple gynecologic surgeries. She has now transitioned to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she has now created an “office only” Preventative Gynecology medical practice. She services patients who need Pap smears, breast exams, contraception, or have problems with abnormal bleeding, vaginitis, STIs, vaginal/vulvar disorders, PCOS, menopause, endometriosis, and painful intercourse.

Dr. Cobbs practiced full-time Obstetrics and Gynecology as an attending physician at several hospitals in the Washington, DC area including Virginia Hospital Center, Reston Hospital, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, INOVA Loudoun Hospital, and INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital where she delivered babies, performed Hysterectomies, Myomectomies, Laparoscopic surgery for infertility, Endometriosis, and Pelvic Pain. She also performed Hysteroscopic surgery, and Uterine Ablations.

Dr. Cobbs obtained her medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C. and completed her Internship and Residency training at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Cobbs’ curriculum vitae encompasses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Goucher College in Towson, MD --- which was attained with the assistance of a music scholarship. She was also the recipient of a financial scholarship to attend the prestigious Sidwell Friends High School in Washington, DC.
As the recipient of numerous awards for her leadership abilities and medical practices, Dr. Cobbs is uniquely qualified to provide this service. She has been named one of America’s Top OB/GYNs, as well as one of America’s Best OB/GYNs by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. Additionally, Dr. Cobbs was also included in the Washingtonian Magazine’s issue of best OB/GYN offices. For further emphasis, upon graduation from Georgetown University Medical School, she was the recipient of the Sarah E. Stewart Leadership Award.
Besides her clinical work, Dr. Cobbs has remained actively engaged in academia. Dr. Cobbs has been involved in research projects involving male contraception, uterine cancer, and adolescent pregnancy. She has also been a clinical instructor with Georgetown University’s Medical School, James Madison University’s Physician Assistant program, and the Physician Assistant Program at Shenandoah University.
Equally important, mission work has been a long-standing part of Dr. Cobbs’ life and career. Dr. Cobbs was the founder and president of the Genesis Food Pantry, Inc. (This organization helped to feed families in the Washington, DC metro area from 1997 to 2011). She has also performed missions work in South Africa with Grace Covenant Church and in Haiti with the Community Coalition for Haiti based in Vienna, Va. During her career, she has also supported Crisis Pregnancy organizations: Birthmothers and Assist Pregnancy Center. She is associated and active with Every Nation churches: Grace Covenant Church in Chantilly, VA, and now Rise Community Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
On par with her Christian values, Dr. Cobbs has started a non-profit clinic in Myrtle Beach: Kingdom Healthcare Center which will be providing STI testing and medication including HIV/AIDS care, early pregnancy sonograms, and free seminars on a variety of health topics. If patients need hospital surgeries or obstetrical deliveries, Dr. Cobbs will be referring patients to her colleagues in Myrtle Beach as necessary.
